We work with a wide variety of plastic materials and we understand the unique properties and specialized uses of each. Additionally, each of these materials is available in a wide range of sizes, colors and thicknesses. Selecting the wrong material can waste time and cost money.
Drawing on our three decades of experience in sheet-plastic fabrication, we can consult with you to help determine the best materials and specifications for your unique product or manufacturing process. Additionally, because of our large-volume purchasing and established relationships with many suppliers, we can obtain materials at an affordable price and in flexible quantities.
Extensive Materials Selection
A wide variety of plastics materials are available, under a variety of different brand names. Some of the most common materials we work with at Goldleaf Plastics include:ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene)
ABS is actually a "hybrid" plastic resin comprised of the three different materials listed above - taking on the best properties of each. Because it possesses both outstanding impact strength and high mechanical strength, ABS is ideal for vacuum formed and fabricated components like automotive dashboards and trim, and electric motor housings and enclosures.
Acrylics
Acrylics are generally hard, rigid plastic materials that offer outstanding resistance to long-term exposure to sunlight and weathering. They also provide exceptional clarity and good light transmission. They're available as transparent material and in many different colors, as well as mirrored or with various patterns. In offering a clean, polished edge, acrylic is an ideal material for use in furniture, display fixtures, signs, safety shields and enclosures.
- Goldleaf Plastics is an authorized distributor of Plexiglas®, Optix®, Lucite® and Chemcast®.
Expanded PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)
Expanded PVC sheet is a very lightweight material that is easy to cut, machine and fabricate. The interior of the sheet is porous while the surface is smooth and hard. This material is excellent for printing, silk screening and laminating. Expanded PVC is commonly used for signs and displays.
- Goldleaf Plastics is an authorized distributor of Celtec®.
(We also distribute PVC sheet.)
Polyethylene Sheet
- HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene Sheet)
HDPE is more rigid and harder than low density materials and is three times better in compressive strength. This material can be polymerized (or fabricated) at relatively low temperatures and pressures. HDPE meets FDA requirements for direct food contact applications. HDPE is commonly used for marine boat decks and seat bases, playground equipment and cutting boards.
- Goldleaf Plastics is an authorized distributor of King Starboard®. - HMWPE (High Molecular Weight Polyethylene Sheet)
This high density polyethylene sheet is particularly well-suited for vacuum forming ATV fenders and roofs, as well as machine shields/covers. - UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene)
This material is ideal for any machine components that require high ware such as slides, chain guides and industrial truck bed liners.
Polycarbonate
Strong, tough and rigid, polycarbonate is transparent and can be processed in a variety of ways. It also has excellent electrical insulating characteristics which are maintained over a wide range of temperatures and loading rates. With its excellent impact resistance, polycarbonate is ideal for use outdoors. Common uses include machine safety guards, equipment enclosures, doors, cab windows, sun roofs and instrument gauge covers.
- Goldleaf Plastics is an authorized distributor of Tuffak® and Makrolon®.
PETG Sheet (Glycol-modified Polyethylene Terephthalate)
This transparent sheet (made from thermoplastic copolyester) offers extreme clarity and light transmission, in combination with high gloss. This material has very good impact resistance - even at low temperatures. It is also approved for food contact applications. PETG can be used for various items such as signage, sign holders, machine guards and containers.
- Goldleaf Plastics is an authorized distributor of Vivak®, and Spartech.
Styrene
Styrene is an excellent, low-cost plastic material available in white and various custom colors. It is used extensively in the retail display industry for interior signage. It is also a very good material for vacuum forming trays and custom frames.
